Terms of Service

Last updated 5 September 2026 · Effective 5 September 2026

The short version: your event is yours. You keep ownership of everything you put into Placette. We do not sell it or use it for anything except running the app for you. A paid plan ends automatically after your event — you should never have to remember to cancel a wedding app.

The rest of this page is the full agreement. It matters if something goes wrong, so it is written to be read.

1. This agreement

These Terms of Service are a contract between you and Humbucker Labs LLC, a South Carolina limited liability company (“we,” “us,” “Humbucker Labs”). They govern your use of Placette — the web app, the mobile apps, and getplacette.com (together, the “Service”).

By using the Service you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it. Our Privacy Policy is part of this agreement.

2. Who may use Placette

You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding contract. If you are using Placette on behalf of a company — a planning business, a venue — you confirm you are authorised to accept these terms for it, and “you” includes that company.

You may not use the Service if we have previously terminated your account, or if doing so would breach the law where you are.

3. Your account

You can use much of Placette without an account, storing your event only on your own device. An account is optional and exists so your work syncs between devices and can be shared.

We sign you in with a one-time link sent to your email address, so there is no password. That means your email account is the key to your Placette account — keep it secure, and tell us promptly if you think someone else has access. You are responsible for activity under your account.

Give us an accurate email address and keep it current. If we cannot reach you, we cannot send you a sign-in link.

4. Your content

You own your content. Guest lists, floor plans, notes, rules, seating charts — everything you create or upload remains yours. We claim no ownership of it.

You grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, transmit, and display your content solely in order to provide the Service to you and to the people you share it with. That licence exists so we are permitted to put your guest list on a screen and sync it to your phone. It ends when you delete the content or your account. It does not let us publish your content, show it to anyone you have not shared it with, sell it, or use it to train machine-learning models.

You are responsible for your content: that you have the right to use it, and that it does not infringe anyone's rights or break the law.

5. Guest information

Placette is for organising people, so you will be entering information about people other than yourself.

You confirm that you have a proper basis to provide the guest information you enter, and that you will use the Service to organise your own events rather than to compile or process lists of people for unrelated purposes. Do not upload sensitive personal information about your guests that the app does not need — medical details, for example. A dietary note is fine; a diagnosis is not something a seating app should hold.

Where you enter information about other people, you are the controller of that information and we act as your processor, handling it on your instructions as described in the Privacy Policy.

6. Sharing and planners

Placette lets a couple and a planner work on the same event. When an event is shared, everyone with access can view and edit its full contents.

Both the couple and the planner have full editing rights. This is deliberate: a planner may be running the day while the couple changed the seating that morning, and the person at the venue needs the current version. Every save is recorded in version history with a timestamp and the account that made it, so it is always clear which version is latest and who produced it.

You are responsible for who you share an event with. Giving someone access lets them see your entire guest list. Access can be removed at any time by whoever owns the event.

If a planner created an event on your behalf, and you later go separate ways, contact us. We will help both parties keep an appropriate copy. We will not adjudicate a dispute between you, but we will not let either side be locked out of their own wedding either.

7. Acceptable use

Do not:

8. Plans and pricing

Placette offers a free tier and paid subscriptions. Current plans and prices are shown at getplacette.com. Paid features may not all be available yet; where a plan is not yet on sale, nothing in this section obliges you to pay for anything.

Paid plans are billed monthly in advance and renew automatically each month until they end under section 9 or you cancel. Prices are in US dollars and exclude any tax we are required to collect.

We may change prices. If we do, we will give you at least 30 days' notice by email, and the new price applies from your next billing period. If you do not want to pay it, cancel before then.

Planner plans. We offer discounted or free access to professional planners, who may hold multiple client events under one account. We may ask for reasonable evidence that you are a working planner, and we may withdraw a discount if that is no longer the case. Everything in these terms applies to planner accounts, and a planner is responsible for the events they hold.

9. When your plan ends

This is the part most subscriptions get wrong, so we do it differently.

When you set an event date, your paid subscription for that event automatically ends after the event has passed. We stop billing you. You do not have to remember to cancel, you do not have to find a hidden setting, and you will not discover a year later that you have been paying for a wedding that already happened.

Your account and your data are not deleted when billing stops — you keep read access to your event and can export or print it. If you change the event date, billing follows the new date.

10. Cancellation and refunds

You can cancel at any time from your account settings. Cancellation stops the next renewal; your plan continues until the end of the period you have already paid for.

We do not generally refund part-months, because the month has been provided. But we are a small company and we would rather be fair than technically correct: if Placette did not work for you, email us and ask. If something was broken on our side, or you were charged after your event had already passed, we will refund you.

Nothing here limits any refund right you have under the consumer law where you live.

11. Purchases through Apple or Google

If you subscribe inside the iOS or Android app, the purchase is made through Apple or Google and is governed by their terms and their refund policies, not ours. We cannot cancel or refund a store subscription for you — you manage it in your App Store or Google Play account settings. If you need a refund on a store purchase, you must request it from them, although we are happy to help you word it.

12. Availability and your backup

We aim to keep Placette running, but we do not promise any particular uptime. We may change, suspend, or discontinue features, and we will give reasonable notice before removing something you depend on. Maintenance happens.

Placette is built local-first, so the app keeps working on your device if your connection drops — which matters at a venue with bad signal. That is a design goal, not a guarantee.

Please export or print your seating chart before the event. A PDF on a phone and a sheet of paper in a bag will survive a dead battery, a venue with no signal, and any outage on our side. We build carefully, we keep version history so edits are not lost, and we still think you should have a copy in your hand on the day.

13. Our intellectual property

The Service itself — the software, the seating solver, the design, the name Placette, and the Humbucker Labs name and logo — belongs to us and our licensors. These terms give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to use the Service; they transfer nothing else.

If you send us feedback or an idea, thank you — genuinely, it is how this app gets built. You agree we may use it without obligation or payment to you. You keep any rights you already had in it.

14. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the seating arrangements it produces will satisfy every constraint you have given it or every relative you have. The seating solver is a tool that helps you; the final chart is your decision, and you should look at it before you print it.

Measurements, clearances and capacity are planning guidance, not a safety or code check. Placette can show a plan to scale and point out where tables look too close together, where a walkway is narrow, or where a room may be over its comfortable capacity. Those figures are drawn from common event-industry conventions. They are not a fire-code review, an occupancy calculation, or an egress assessment, and a plan that shows no warnings has not been certified as anything.

Occupancy limits, aisle widths, exit routes and accessibility requirements vary by jurisdiction, by venue, and by the specific configuration on the day. They are set by your venue, your local authority and your own licensed professionals, and you remain responsible for meeting them. Do not rely on Placette in place of that.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

15. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, neither party is liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, or data, arising out of or relating to the Service.

Our total liability to you for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) US$100.

These limits apply even if a remedy fails of its essential purpose. They do not limit liability that cannot lawfully be limited — including fraud, or death or personal injury caused by negligence. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

16. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Humbucker Labs LLC and its members and officers from claims, damages, and reasonable legal costs arising from your content, your use of the Service, or your breach of these terms or of anyone's rights. We will tell you promptly about any such claim and let you control the defence, and you will not settle anything that imposes an obligation on us without our agreement.

17. Termination

You may stop using Placette at any time and delete your account from within the app.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you materially breach these terms, if we are legally required to, or if your use puts the Service or other users at risk. Except where a breach is serious or unlawful, we will give you notice and a reasonable chance to put it right first.

If we discontinue the Service entirely, we will give you at least 60 days' notice and a way to export your events, and we will refund any prepaid period you have not used.

Sections 4, 13, 14, 15, 16, 19, and 20 survive termination.

18. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change is material we will give you at least 30 days' notice by email or in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Placette after that means you accept the new terms; if you do not, cancel and stop using the Service, and we will refund any prepaid period you have not used.

19. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of South Carolina, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The courts located in Greenville County, South Carolina have exclusive jurisdiction, and both parties consent to that venue.

If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer law in your country of residence, or of your right to bring proceedings there.

Before filing anything, please email us. Nearly everything is solvable in a conversation, and we would much rather have that one.
