Privacy Policy
Last updated 28 August 2026 · Effective 28 August 2026
Placette is built to work without an account and without a network connection. If you never sign in, your guest list never leaves your device — we have no copy of it and no way to see it.
We do not use analytics. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. We have never sold personal information and we will not.
1. Who we are
Placette is made by Humbucker Labs LLC, a limited liability company registered in South Carolina, United States. In this policy, “we,” “us,” and “Placette” mean Humbucker Labs LLC. “You” means the person using the app.
This policy covers the Placette web app at getplacette.com, the Placette mobile apps, and the Placette marketing site. It does not cover other websites we link to.
2. Working without an account
This is the most important thing to understand about how Placette handles your data, so it comes first.
Placette is a local-first application. When you open it, the whole app runs in your browser or on your phone. Your event — the guest list, the tables, the seating rules, the floor plan, the finished chart — is stored on the device you are using, in that device's own storage.
If you never create an account, that is where it stays. It is not uploaded. We cannot read it, back it up, restore it, or hand it to anyone, because we do not have it. The trade-off is real and worth stating plainly: if you clear your browser data, uninstall the app, or lose the device, that event is gone and we cannot recover it. Export or print a copy of anything you would be upset to lose.
3. What we collect
If you create an account
Signing in is optional, and exists so your events follow you between devices and so you can work with a planner. We use a “magic link” — you enter your email address and we send you a link to click. There is no password to choose, store, or lose.
When you have an account, we hold:
- Your email address, used to sign you in and to send you service messages about your account.
- Your events, synced from your device: the event name, date, venue, and client or couple name; your guest list; the tables and other objects you have placed; your seating rules; and the seating assignments themselves.
- Floor plan images you upload, stored as files.
- Version history. Each time an event is saved to your account we keep a copy of that version, along with the time, a short description of what changed, and which account made the change. This exists so that when two people are editing the same wedding, nobody's work quietly disappears. Version history is append-only — earlier versions are not overwritten — and it is deleted when the event or the account is deleted.
- Basic technical records that any web service creates: IP address, browser or device type, and timestamps, kept in short-lived server logs for security and troubleshooting.
If you contact us or join the waitlist
If you submit the waitlist form, the feedback form, or email us, we keep what you send — your email address and your message — so that we can reply and so we know what to build next.
If you subscribe to a paid plan
Payments are handled by our payment processor, or by Apple or Google if you subscribe inside a mobile app. We never see or store your card number. We receive only what we need to know that your subscription is active: a customer reference, the plan, the status, and the billing period.
4. Information about your guests
Placette exists to organise other people, which means most of what you put into it is information about somebody else — typically a name, sometimes a group or relationship, an RSVP status, a dietary note, or a note about who should not sit near whom.
We treat that information as yours to control, not ours to use. Specifically:
- We process it only to provide the app to you — to display it, sort it, solve the seating, and sync it to your own account.
- We do not build profiles of your guests, market to them, or contact them. We have no reason to and no mechanism for it.
- We do not sell it, rent it, or share it with advertisers or data brokers.
- We delete it when you delete the event or your account.
You are responsible for having a proper basis to enter someone else's information — which, for a guest list drawn from the people you are inviting to your own event, is ordinarily uncontroversial. Only add what you actually need. A first name and a table is usually enough; a private detail about a guest's health, beliefs, or family situation does not need to live in a seating app.
5. How we use it
We use the information above to:
- Run the app and its features — import, editing, the seating solver, export and print.
- Sign you in and keep your session working.
- Sync your events between your devices and to anyone you have shared an event with.
- Keep version history so concurrent edits do not destroy each other's work.
- Send you service messages: sign-in links, and notices about your subscription or material changes to the service.
- Take payment and manage your subscription.
- Keep the service secure, diagnose faults, and prevent abuse.
- Comply with the law.
We do not use your event data to train machine-learning models.
We will not send you marketing email unless you asked for it — for example, by joining the waitlist — and every such message has an unsubscribe link.
6. Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with the service providers that make Placette work, each of which is bound to use it only to provide their service to us:
| Provider | What it does | What it can see |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, authentication, and file storage | Your email address, your events, your floor plans |
| Netlify | Website hosting and form handling | Server logs; waitlist submissions |
| Resend | Sending our email | Your email address and the message we send you |
| Microsoft | Our own business email | Anything you email us |
| Apple / Google | App distribution and in-app subscriptions | Subscription status; whatever their own policies cover |
| Our payment processor | Card payments on the web | Your payment details, which we never receive |
We may also disclose information if we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to protect our rights or someone's safety. If Humbucker Labs is ever sold or merged, your information may transfer as part of that business, and this policy continues to apply to it until you are given notice of a replacement.
7. Planners and shared events
Placette is designed for a couple and their planner to work on the same event. If you share an event, or a planner invites you to one, then everyone with access can see and edit that event's contents — the guest list, notes, rules, and seating included.
Sharing is something you choose, and you can stop it. Every change is recorded in version history with the time and the account that made it, so it is always clear which version is current and where it came from. If a planner created your event and you later part ways, contact us and we will help sort out who keeps what.
8. Cookies and tracking
We use no advertising cookies, no third-party tracking pixels, and no analytics product — not Google Analytics, not anything else. There is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to.
Placette stores data on your device for two purposes only: to hold your events locally, and to remember that you are signed in. Both are strictly necessary to provide the app you asked for, and neither is used to follow you anywhere.
Our hosting provider keeps ordinary server access logs, as every web server does. We use them to keep the site up and secure, not to profile visitors.
9. How long we keep it
- Events and version history — for as long as your account exists, or until you delete them.
- Account and email address — for as long as your account exists.
- Server logs — a short period, normally under 30 days.
- Waitlist and feedback — until you ask us to remove it.
- Billing records — as long as tax and accounting law requires, typically seven years. These are invoices and amounts, not your event data.
Data stored only on your device is under your control, and is removed when you delete the app or clear your browser's storage for the site.
10. Deleting your account
You can delete your account from inside Placette, in your account settings. You do not have to email us and ask.
Deleting your account removes your email address, your events, your floor plans, and your version history. We complete this within 30 days, and it is purged from encrypted backups within 90 days. It cannot be undone, so export anything you want to keep first.
If an event was shared with someone else, deleting your account removes your access and your copy. Ask your planner or your partner to delete theirs as well if you want it gone entirely.
11. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- See what we hold about you.
- Export it in a portable format.
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Delete it.
- Object to or restrict how we use it.
Most of this you can do yourself inside the app, which is faster than asking us. For anything else, email us and we will respond within 30 days. We will not charge you, and we will not treat you differently for asking.
If you are in California, you have the rights above under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined, and we do not process it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
If you are in the UK, EEA, or Switzerland, our lawful bases are: performing our contract with you (running the app and your subscription); your consent (marketing email, which you can withdraw at any time); and our legitimate interests (keeping the service secure and working). You may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Where you enter information about your guests, you are the controller of that information and we act as your processor.
12. Security
Data in transit is encrypted with TLS. Data at rest in our database and file storage is encrypted. Access to your account's data is enforced at the database level with row-level security, so one account's rows cannot be read by another even if the application layer has a bug. Sign-in uses one-time links rather than passwords, which removes password reuse as an attack path entirely.
No system is perfectly secure, and we will not claim otherwise. If a breach affects your personal information, we will tell you and the relevant regulators as the law requires, without delay.
13. Children
Placette is intended for adults planning events and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Guest lists commonly include children as invitees. That is ordinary contact information you have entered about people you are inviting to your own event, and it is treated exactly like the rest of your guest list — used only to run the app for you, never for anything else.
14. Where your data is held
Humbucker Labs is based in the United States, and our service providers store data on servers in the United States. If you use Placette from outside the US, your information is transferred to and processed there, under this policy. Where transfers from the UK or EEA require a legal mechanism, our providers rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
15. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we handle your information, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Placette after that means you accept the updated policy.
